Blizzard Mulling Over Idea of Diablo On Consoles

While Blizzard hasn’t shipped a console title in what seems like eons, that could change with the long-awaited release of Diablo III. Speaking at the DICE Summit yesterday, company CEO Mike Morhaime says the prospect of Diablo on consoles is being explored.

It might not be a straight-up port, but rather an experience modified to fit consoles:

“I think you could make an argument that a game like Diablo might play very well on a console. It’s something that we’re actually doing an investigation into to see if that could make sense,” he told Joystiq.

Further, he alluded to the various hurdles that Blizzard would have to overcome for such an undertaking. Specifically – the ability to deliver routine patches and updates, along with expansion content. While Sony has recently embraced third-party services like Valve’s Steamworks, Microsoft still remains adverse to opening up Xbox Live.
