Sony Details “Welcome Back” Program for EU and US

by Justin B. May 16, 2011 @ 1:54 pm

Update: Sony has re-posted the post on their blog and have done the same for US users as well. Those in the US will receive the same offers as SCEE users with the addition of a selection of “On Us” rental movie titles. The PlayStation Home gifts have also been announced and include 100 free virtual items.

Just a short while ago Sony released details for their “Welcome Back” program for Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe users on their official blog. However, the said blog post was shortly removed after being published. We’re resourceful though and copied the content prior to it being removed.

Users will receive a free month (30 days) of PlayStation Plus with existing PS+ subscribers getting two months (60 days). They will also be offering some sort of package within PlayStation Home as well, although details regarding that have not been revealed yet.

The  most intriguing gift is your choice of two free games  from a list as well as two PSP games from a list. The list includes big names such as LittleBigPlanet, Infamous, and Wipeout HD. Check out the full details after the break.

SCEE Welcome Back Details Leaked
Posted on May 16, 2011 by Shak

What follows is the entirety of the leaked Welcome Back details, which are probably meant to go live later. What the asterisk is for, I have no clue.

Now that certain PSN services have been restored and you’re once again enjoying online gaming, it seems a good time to confirm what is being offered as part of the Welcome Back programme.

Once we restore PlayStation Store, which will be just a little while longer, you will have the opportunity to claim your Welcome Back gifts. Please note that the Welcome Back programme is only available for those countries with access to PlayStation Store*.

All existing PlayStation Network members will be able to access the following from PlayStation Store*:

Two PS3 games from the following list:

LittleBigPlanet
Infamous*
Wipeout HD/Fury
Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty
Dead Nation*

For those with PSP accounts, you will also be eligible to download two PSP games from the following list:

LittleBigPlanet PSP
ModNation PSP
Pursuit Force
Killzone Liberation*

– 30 days free PlayStation Plus membership for non PS Plus subscribers*
– Existing PlayStation Plus subscribers will be given 60 days free subscription.

– For existing Music Unlimited subscribers, you will be given 30 days free subscription.

– We are working on a Welcome Back offer in PlayStation Home and will share that when it is confirmed.

I would like to thank all of the developers and publishers involved in this programme for their support in making this happen. We certainly couldn’t have done it without you.

You will be able to access this content once PlayStation Store comes back online and we are doing everything we can to make that happen as soon as possible.

Thank you for your support and keep checking back on the blog for more information.

1. For eligibility for the welcome back programme consumers must be an account holder on 20 April 2011. Specific details about these offers and eligibility requirements will be posted as the services go live. All existing PSN registrants have 30 days from when the welcome back programme goes live to redeem their content.
2. For the German market, InFamous and Dead Nation will be replace with Super Stardust HD and Hustle Kings in the selection of PS3 games.
3. For the German market, Pursuit Force and Killzone Liberation will be replaced with Everybody’s Golf 2 and Buzz Junior Jungle Party in the selection of PSP games. Killzone Liberation will not offer online gameplay functionality.
4. Access to the 30 days free PS Plus subscription is only available for those countries where PS Plus is offered. You will have access to the PS Plus content planned for May for 30 days. Access to the free games and exclusive features finishes at the end of the 30-day subscription period. Anything you buy with exclusive discounts, dynamic themes and premium avatars are yours to keep forever.

I just happen to have 2 psn accounts. Guess I get all 4 psp games :D

ultimakillz says:

hm.... not many games to choose from, but its better than nothing. im anxious to see if scea users are getting the same treatment.

El Xando says:

Two months

90 days

Errrrm??

FrozenIpaq says:

errmm...60 days...one sec ;)

TeamOverload says:

That's what I was thinking. Most people have multiple accounts, not that hard to get all the titles, unless they've thought of that and will only allow 2 games per console.

Infamous and Wipeout for PS3. Already have the others. Had Infamous at one point in time, but sold it when I needed some cash, so guess I might as well pick it back up for free after all.

hush404 says:

... ah yeah... The only PS3 title I dont own is Wipeout... and thats cuz I dont like the series.

LBP and MNR on PSP for me I guess... Not even that pumped for em... Would rather MGS PW or maybe GoW GoS.

60 of PS+ is okay... but considering it was out for 1 month... and I'm a PS+ member... i lost a month of PS+... so I'm only getting 1 month in actuality.

Sigh. Some games I could care less about having an a month make up for the month I lost of PS+...

Dan says:

I was expecting games that most people hadn't played. I guess not.

Abe Froeman says:

I've got three accounts thanks to wanting multiple builds for DS. I'm OK with this offering.

TeamOverload says:

If they did that, everyone would have complained that they were "no good, crap titles that nobody wanted", regardless of if they actually were or not.

BlackSheep says:

I got three accounts (two i made and one that my friend doesnt go on any more) Im getting all for the ps3 except lbp

El Diablo says:

I never played LBP or Infamous. I sold my hacked ps3 and have one on a low FW that doesn't read bluray discs. Really tempted to update that just to get those 2 games.

BlackSheep says:

i have lbp on a disc no need for two its a great game btw

Trigun says:

I think that's an excellent list of games. I havne't played any of them! :3

Hellcat says:

Shit....

The PS3 offers I either already have or really do not want/like :-/

PSP side Modnation Racers is nice, but the rest.... maybe Pursuit Force, but that's it....

Bottom line: crap lineup to choose from for me (except Modnation Racers, that one I really want :)).

// EDIT

Oh, FUCK YOU $ONY, you can't even do this one properly:

Nothing but worthless crap for the "german market" again....

LocutusEstBorg says:

Everyone get Dead Nation. I seriously doubt they'll allow multiple accounts to download on the same console since games are playable for all users anyway.

KezraPlanes says:

I hardly think Sony is to blame for the shit offerings on the german market... Isn't there some kind of limitation in the Market got to do with that? I always thought there was =\

Anyway, considering I have 3 PSN accounts (2EU, 1US) I'm getting as many games as I can :P Wipeout Fury/Dead Nation/inFamous are my priorities :P

EDIT: Just as I thought, Germany's censorship laws are at fault for the shitty replacements.

Abe Froeman says:

I'll grab Dead Nation on my US account and LBP for my EU account I think.

LocutusEstBorg says:

You can pick TWO per account.

january39 says:

Why do you need different region psn accounts (apart from the obvious benefit)

Abe Froeman says:

Just for accessing different content on each regions store.

january39 says:

Get you.

I think im going for Dead Nation, but cant decide between ratchet and clank or wipeout.

ultimakillz says:

has anyone asked if these games are going to "expire"? i was going to opt out of the psn+ trial but it looks like its mandatory. i signed on yesterday and thought i noticed some psn+-like features, which leads me to believe that anything we would be offered would be tied to the psn+ trial and therefore expire :argh:

Abe Froeman says:

I tried to backup my gamesaves yesterday and it just brought me to a sign up for PS+ page

Has anyone done that yet? If so, how?

ultimakillz says:

i really didnt see a "psn+ sign-up" page. i just signed into my regular psn account and noticed a different looking chat room icon so i thought i had automatically begun my psn+ trial

ill pay closer attention tonight ;)

NeilR says:

The blog post outlining the program indicates that the selection of games "will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever".

ultimakillz says:

ah great, thanks for pointing that out. i totally missed it xD

xtmrage says:

"4. Access to the 30 days free PS Plus subscription is only available for those countries where PS Plus is offered. You will have access to the PS Plus content planned for May for 30 days. Anything you buy with exclusive discounts, dynamic themes and premium avatars are yours to keep forever."

... So, the free games AREN'T yours to keep forever? They're lending you 30 days play time on these titles? WOW Sony, great job on once again screwing with your customers.

Like, seriously, they cant offer them as "yours to keep" incentives on staying with PSN..?

Abe Froeman says:

Why would anyone even keep PS+ if they allowed everyone with a PSN account a month to download all of the free titles offered with that service and let them keep it forever? Free PS+ for a month comes with all of the normal terms that every PS+ purchase before this offering did.

TeamOverload says:

The Welcome Back free titles are yours to keep forever, the normal games that are offered free WITH Playstation Plus are not yours to keep if you don't keep subscribing. Hope that clears things up.

Biggy204 says:

Wait i think it said the purchases made during the 30 use of the PSN+ is urs even after the 30 days. Since u did essencially buy the games or d/l'ed them for the given discounts. It would suck if sony deleted them all after the 30 days.

TeamOverload says:

Correct, any games that are on sale for PSN+ members that you actually purchase are yours to keep for life as well.

NeilR says:

Okay I'm not currently a PlayStation Plus subscriber so I'm not 100% sure but from what I understand after reading the FAQ the stuff you get to keep are themes and avatars. Discounts you receive are applied to purchases; they're not going to take those away from you. The things you don't get to keep if you choose not to subscribe after the 30 day membership period are the free games, free downloads, and game trials.

SO... the "welcome back" program gives you your choice of free games to keep (from the list in the blog post) and the month membership to Plus will at least give you access to some themes, avatars, and discounts on purchases you can keep. The free PlayStation Home content seems like it's yours to keep as well.

I think that about covers it..

TeamOverload says:

You hit the nail on the head, now just to wait for the store to be back up. My guess is Thursday, not that it's concrete evidence, but Harmonix has scheduled this weeks update for Thursday for Playstation 3 (and has posted this Thursday's date for last weeks update as well), so Sony might be communicated with developers much more than us on the situation. Guess we'll just wait and see.

Juliet says:

Good stuff for PSP. I think Sony especially cared about Go owners since they couldn't play any game other than the ones in the local memory. So, I think they are the most affected ones from this case.

TeamOverload says:

And now the password reset page has been compromised, so that's been taken offline to get fixed: http://sony.nyleveia.com/2011/05/17/warning-all-psn-users-your-accounts-are-still-not-safe/

Abe Froeman says:

Good work Nevada.

El Diablo says:

Lmao...

TeamOverload says:

No store update today, so I guess the previous reports were wrong, the wait continues for our free stuff. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/05/24/playstation-network-scheduled-maintenance-today/

Abe Froeman says:

Didn't the store update on Thursdays?

TeamOverload says:

They moved them to Tuesdays early last year.
