Kaz Hirai Steps Down as Representative Director and Chairman of PlayStation Division

While Kaz Hirai is responsible for steering Sony’s direction at large as President and CEO, the exec has stepped down from his secondary role as Representative Director and Chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment – otherwise known as the company’s PlayStation division. The news comes as a result of new executive appointments made today.

He’s not cutting off all ties to SCE, however. Hirai will still offer input as a part-time Member of the Board. Former Sony CEO Howard Stringer has stepped down from the board entirely.

The move will allow Hirai to divert the bulk of his attention to Sony’s TV business, which has been struggling to turn a profit. Last March, Hirai announced a bold plan to unify Sony’s management structure, an initiative dubbed One Sony.
