PS Vita Firmware 1.80 Allows for Optional PSP Touch Controls

Today’s launch of the firmware 1.80 update for Vita means gamers now have the opportunity to download some classic PSOne titles. That’s definitely great news, especially if you’re a Vita owners who fancies Sony’s early video game endeavors.

Another neat feature that comes with the firmware update is the ability to use button controls on the Vita’s main menu. But that’s not all, because now you’ll also be able to use touchscreen controls for PSP games. Say what?!

According to Joystiq, holding down on the Vita’s touchscreen for a short while brings up a menu that allows you to map any PSP button to any of the screen’s four corners. I’m not sure that I would use a feature like this myself, but maybe there are gamers out there who want to play their games differently. Or maybe no one will ever use this.
