Sony Closing PSP Comic Store Next Month

by David Sanchez on September 30, 2012 @ 9:31 am

Sony has announced that it will be closing down its PSP Comic Store on Wednesday, October 30. The digital comic shop, which allowed PSP owners to read comics directly on their handhelds, has failed to receive any updates since July 2011.

After October 30, PSP owners will no longer be able to purchase and download comics. Additionally, previously purchased comics will be available for re-download up until mid-January 2013, if licenses permit, of course. By using Sony’s Media Go software, you’ll be able to back up your content.

If you’re the owner of some comics on your PSP and they’re not currently in your collection, it’s heavily suggested that you back that stuff up ASAP if you don’t want to lose your content. I’d like to bid an early farewell to a service that was destined to be defunct. We’ll miss you, PSP Comic Store. Well, not really.

Seeing as it only ever came out in the states... most of the world isn't going to care.

I thought this was a really cool idea but with the rise of smartphones and tablets, the PSP was definitely not the best platform for comics on the go.
