The uphill battle of the Vita in Japan rages on as it faces extreme opposition from the 3DS. According to a report on Gamasutra, Nintendo’s dual screen handheld largely outsold Sony’s portable by a whopping 47-to-1 ratio this past week.

To put things into even clearer perspective, NeoGAF indicates that the Vita only managed to sell 4,021 units last week in Japan. Meanwhile the 3DS turned out a much more profitable 187,077 units. This is likely due in large part to the release of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, which topped Japanese sales charts after hitting 721,786 sales.

As far as handheld sales are concerned, Sony hasn’t been able to trump Nintendo thus far. Still, 3DS sales never outnumbered Vita sales this much in the past. It seems like shipment and sales figures are reflecting Sony’s lack of Vita content more than ever before.
