On Crysis 3’s Community Day Sean Tracey, Senior Field Applications Engineer for Crytek, took to the stage to show off some of the engine’s newest additions. The live demo of the SDK included a look at the new particle systems (shading/lighting), cloth handling, pixel accurate displacement mapping. lens effects, area lighting and volume fog shadows.

The folks over at Crysis-HQ managed to record close to 30 minutes of the demo for our enjoyment. The video was heavily focused towards the development crowd but consumers can still take a peek at the video and get a sense of what new things are coming in Crysis 3.

The most impressive portions came when Tracey showed off the new pixel accurate dispalcement mapping (PADM) which replaces tessellation for some objects, providing for increased in-game performance. There’s a lot in the video, and it provides some nice insight into some of the smaller details that are often overlooked in games.
