Nintendo has revealed that it has no intention of hitting the grand E3 stage with a massive press conference. Instead, the company will focus on its lineup of games slated for North America and hold several smaller events at the show in Los Angeles.

“First, we decided not to host a large-scale presentation targeted at everyone in the international audience where we announce new information as we did in the past,” stated a financial briefing from Nintendo President Satoru Iwata. “Instead, at the E3 show this year, we are planning to host a few smaller events that are specifically focused on our software lineup for the U.S. market. There will be one closed event for American distributors, and we will hold another closed hands-on experience event, for mainly the Western gaming media.”

With both the Wii U and 3DS being Nintendo’s main focus, the company has no plans of introducing new hardware in the near future. As a result, Iwata explained that there’s really no reason for a major presser.

Personally, I’m kind of bummed that Nintendo isn’t doing a big conference. Those things are always a lot of fun, regardless of whether they’re good or painful to witness. Additionally, it would be great to see a large-scale event focusing solely on games for Nintendo’s current platforms. Still, if we’re going to get a live Nintendo Direct type deal, that could be pretty cool, too. Besides, you have to believe that the company doesn’t want to take the show floor and compete against Microsoft and Sony, who will likely be showing off their new hardware.
