Index Corporation, which happens to be the parent company of Atlus, is going through a tough financial period. According to Japanator, Index has filed for civil rehabilitation, which is a bit like bankruptcy, but more like drug rehab. To put it plainly, the company is attempting to recover from losses rather than just calling it quits.

A lot of questions have been raised as to the status and future of Atlus, which is responsible for bringing us the highly successful Persona series. As of this writing, it doesn’t seem as if the studio is in deep trouble, mainly because it’s one of the most profitable branches under the Index umbrella.

The company is weighing its options (which there aren’t many of) and seeking a sponsor company. This would allow Index to pursue a business transfer and further keep Atlus from suffering a similar fate.
