Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2

If you were holding out on Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 making its way to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, well, stop it! Speaking to Destructoid, Producer David Cox explained that while Konami and publisher MercuryStream had considered the possibility of going next-gen, the decision was ultimately made to stay on the older crop of consoles.

“We did think about bringing the game to next-gen about a few months ago,” said Cox. “We had a talk about it, but it would have meant we would have to take a few steps backward in terms of development — and we really didn’t want to do that, we’d already been making the game for such a long time.”

Another reason Konami and developer MercuryStream decided against going with next-gen platforms was so that both this game and its predecessor could be available on the same hardware rather than being separated for folks who’ve yet to make the jump to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Makes sense, especially when you consider how not everyone is investing on newer hardware just yet.

If you’re dead set on experiencing Lords of Shadow 2 in glorious next-gen visual quality, Cox believes you’ll get some semblance of that with the PC version of the game. “The PC version that we’ve developed goes some way in representing what it would look like if we did a next-gen version of the game,” said the dev. “That’s the best-looking version of the game that you’re gonna see.”
