Rumor: Pandemic’s Batman Effort Shot Down

Posted by x3sphere at August 27, 2008, 11:42 pm

If a rumor stemming from an Australian Gamer piece is to be believed, Pandemic’s Batman game movie tie-in with The Dark Knight has been given the proverbial axe. Apparently, development on the title was lagging behind schedule, leaving “higher-ups” at the studio’s Australia-based Brisbane location no choice but to can it in fear of losses.

If true, this wouldn’t exactly be a surprise. Previous reports, one citing an anonymous EA manager, speculated that the quality of the project was not up to snuff and deadlines were being missed.

PSN Cards To Show Up At Blockbuster, 7-Eleven, and Riteaid Outlets This September

Posted by x3sphere at August 27, 2008, 9:58 pm

Despite being promised for a “nationwide” rollout last Spring, pre-paid PSN cards are still a scarce commodity. That is, unless you have a Meijer nearby. Truth be told, many of us don’t, so it is reassuring to hear that Sony will be expanding availability of the cards to Blockbuster, 7-Eleven and Riteaid stores across the continental United States later this September.

This is no doubt good news for those without access to a credit card or debit card account. We just can’t fathom why it took them this long though.

Meteos Wars Heading To XBLA

Posted by x3sphere at August 27, 2008, 4:05 pm

According to the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu, an enhanced port of Q Entertainment’s Nintendo DS fast-paced block-busting puzzle title Meteos is scheduled to hit the Xbox Live Arcade service in Japan this October. The XBLA edition will of course include achievements, along with one-on-one multiplayer battles over Live.

No word on a release date for territories other than Japan — yet. Considering the majority of Live Arcade titles are released on a worldwide basis, it would be realistic to expect Meteos Wars to hit North America in October as well.

Petroglyph’s Free-To-Play Online Game Finds Publisher

Posted by x3sphere at August 27, 2008, 12:22 pm

True Games announced today that it has entered into an agreement with European-based publisher GOA. Under the agreement, GOA will publish an upcoming free-to-play micro-transaction based online game for the PC. The title, which has yet to be officially named, is in development at Petroglyph Studios of Star Wars: Empire at War fame.

“When we partnered with Petroglyph our pledge to them was that we would make their game a global sensation and that we would work with only the highest quality partners like GOA to help support it,” said Jeff Lujan, Founder and Chairman of True Games Interactive. “Traditionally worldwide partners license a game after it’s been completed, but we are working across the globe to locate partners who can contribute to design direction and adapt the game for cultural tastes in each territory for a true worldwide launch.”

Although details surrounding the title are virtually nonexistant, both True Games and GOA are promising that a “major announcement” will be made soon.

Tom Clancy’s EndWar Pre-Launch VIP Demo Kicks Off In October

Posted by x3sphere at August 26, 2008, 7:32 pm

French-based publisher Ubisoft today sent word that that a pre-launch VIP demo for the Xbox 360 version of Tom Clancy’s EndWar will begin in October, a month before the game’s scheduled mid-November release.

“We believe EndWar will revolutionize the strategy genre on consoles and are thrilled gamers will be able to get a little taste of why we are so excited about EndWar’s release this holiday season,” said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. “With its innovative voice command and intuitive game design, fans will be able to learn first hand how a console game was able to win the judges over and win Best Strategy Game of E3 for the first time in a category previously dominated by PC titles.”

Access into the pre-launch VIP demo will be limited, with Xbox Live tokens being given out to pre-orderers of the game on a first-come first-served basis at various participating retailers, such as GameStop.

The demo itself will give players a taste of EndWar’s multiplayer aspect, serving as a final stress test for the game’s online servers.

Ryan Payton Leaves Kojima Productions

Posted by x3sphere at August 26, 2008, 4:35 pm

Ryan Payton, predominately known for serving as assistance producer for Kojima Productions throughout the duration of Metal Gear Solid 4 development, has revealed that he is officially no longer a part of the company. Payton cited personal reasons, specifically being hit with some “pretty heavy news” concerning his mother, for stepping down from the position:

Back when I joined Kojima Productions in 2005, I hit the ground running and didn’t stop until we shipped Metal Gear Solid 4. Then, for the first time in three years, I wasn’t working on any games and I had a three month vacation ahead of me. I went back home to my family’s place in Washington state and literally three weeks after MGS4 launched we were hit with some pretty heavy news concerning my mom. I don’t think I need to go into details, but all of this has reminded me about how important family is. So this past month I decided to leave Kojima Productions and look to continue my career working closer to my family in North America.
