PS3 to get double dose of SOCOM

The recent PS3 SOCOM announcement at Sony’s Gamers Day was not exactly surprising. I mean, we all knew it was inevitable that Sony would bring the SOCOM franchise to PS3. What was surprising about the announcement is that SOCOM Confrontation development is being headed up by Slant Six games, rather than Zipper Interactive (who have worked on all the previous SOCOM titles).
So what happened to Zipper Interactive? Apparently, they haven’t gone anywhere. A Sony spokesperson confirmed that Zipper is working on its own game set in the SOCOM universe. Unlike Confrontation, this new SOCOM will feature a complete single player experience as well as online play.
No word on when this new SOCOM title will see the light of day, but expect to hear more next year.
