DotA 2 Announced by Valve

Valve just announced the development of Defense of the Ancients 2 for both Mac and PC with IceFrog, the current designer of the Warcraft III custom game. DotA 2 will be, more or less, a port of the current custom game, bringing over all 100+ characters and items. Valve and IceFrog aren’t about to change a formula that already works so don’t expect many (if any) changes to the gameplay.

The new game however will be developed using the Source engine which will give new in-game voice support, a global lighting system and “true cloth simulation” on top of the evident bump in graphics.

GameInformer has a lengthy article on the just-announced game so be sure to head over to their site (which is currently under heavy load) to check out all the new details.
