Proper Modding API A Priority for Minecraft, Says Notch

Speaking a recent interview with Gamasutra, Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson acknowledged the need for a proper API to streamline plugin creation for modders, touting it as a high priority. He also says to expect “some kind of full version” later this year, as the sandbox title transitions from beta to a mature project.

“We’re currently aiming at finishing some kind of full version of the game some time during 2011,” said Persson. He added, “High up on priority is a proper modding API that lets people who make mods plug into the game in a way that doesn’t break when we update the game.”

“Mods have done great things for other games, and there’s a strong modding community for Minecraft already that we need to take care of better.”
