DICE On Competitors: “They’re Getting Lazy”

In this latest episode of corporate mud-slinging, EA’s DICE has lashed out at its nearest rival Activision over a lack of innovation, saying that the competition is “getting lazy.”
In an obvious shot at the Call of Duty franchise, DICE general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson told Official PlayStation Magazine: “They’re using the same engine, the same recipe for building a game. At some point you need to take that leap. I haven’t seen them take that leap since a long time ago.”
Responding to fan questions on Twitter last week, Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling said the studio has “no plans” to counter with a new engine of its own, calling the prospect “counter productive.”
DICE showed off the technical prowess of Battlefield 3 in several GDC trailers released over the past month. To say it looks stunning is probably an understatement, it’s in a class of its own.
