Minecraft On Xbox 360 Begins With Beta

Like its PC counterpart, the E3 2011-announced Xbox 360 adaption of Minecraft will begin with a beta. While Mojang isn’t handling development on the 360 side internally, Minecraft creator Markus Persson says a beta will give the team valuable insight from fans on what ticks and what doesn’t.

The way we’re going to do it is similar to how we did Minecraft on the PC. So we’ll do a beta version first or something like that and then try to get feedback – find out which parts are actually fun to do, what do you like doing when playing on the console as opposed to the PC. I think there will be a big overlap in terms of both console and PC players, and they can help us figure it out.

Persson pointed to the crafting aspect of Minecraft as one gameplay facet that might not transition well to the Xbox 360 without modification, mainly due to the difference in control schemes. Beyond that, he called the Kinect features “really interesting,” but did not elaborate further.
