Dreamcast 2 Under Works?

An insightful eye over at Trademork noticed that SEGA filed an application to protect the Dreamcast trademark. The respective application, which was filed in August of this year, covers the following goods:
home video game machines; player-operated electronic controllers for electronic video game machines; video game interactive controller, namely, hand held pads, and floor pads or mats; joysticks for video games; computer cursor control devices, namely, computer mouse; flash memory cards; video game software, computer game programs
Interestingly, there are some differences between this filing and the initial Dreamcast trademark filing. Most notably “floor pads or mats,” which was included the new filing but is not present in the original one.
Does this mean SEGA is working on a new Dreamcast? I highly doubt it. More than likely SEGA is just taking precautionary measures to protect its now-defunct brand.
Looking back, it sure been awhile since SEGA’s dropped out of the hardware business and I feel that Microsoft has filled the void left by SEGA. To introduce a new piece of hardware at this point, when competition is so fierce, wouldn’t be wise decision in my opinion. Not to mention that SEGA’s brand name isn’t as strong as it used to be. Sure, SEGA is still a great gaming company, but they sure as hell don’t pump out as many AAA titles as Nintendo for example, or even as they did back in the Genesis days for that matter.
So Dreamcast 2? Would be nice, but I don’t see it happening.
