Sony Says Most Vita Owners Also Own a PS3

Own a PlayStation Vita? If so, you probably own a PlayStation 3, too. According to Sony’s John Koller, who recently announced that the company would continue to support the PlayStation 3 through 2015 and possibly onward, the home platform and handheld duo will be able to do what the Wii U does with ease.

Speaking to Engadget, the PlayStation VP of hardware marketing stated, “We tell our PlayStation fans all the time that what the Wii U is offering is something that Vita and PS3 can do quite easily. It’s dependent on the content. So we need to make sure the content isn’t force fed. And, to us, making sure that the gamer receives the right type of experience is what’s most important.”

It definitely seems as if Sony is eying the competition. The Wii U introduced some interesting ideas, and if Sony has the hardware in both the home and portable spaces, we could see it emulating the experience that Nintendo is trying to sell. “In the meantime, you look at the Vita consumer and a very high percentage — almost all of them — own a PS3,” continued Koller. “So you see that crossover works.”

Will Sony attempt to create a Wii U-esque experience of its own, knowing very well that most Vita owners also have a PlayStation 3? It’s very possible. If it does happen, let’s hope it’s in a creative manner that will allow the gamers to get the most out of their entertainment experiences.
