It was previously documented that for the first time ever Nintendo would be selling one of its machines at a loss with the Wii U. According to Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime, however, it doesn’t take much for the console to make a profit. In fact, all it takes is one game sale with every platform for Nintendo to come out winning.

“The business model doesn’t change dramatically, in that as soon as we get the consumer to buy one piece of software, then that entire transaction becomes profit positive,” stated the Regginator in an interview with Mercury News. “In the end, the business model is still to drive the install base of hardware, and then to drive a strong tie ratio with all of the other software and experiences for the consumer. And if we’re able to do that, then we will create significant profit for the company.”

With New Super Mario Bros. U being a surefire day one buy for a lot of folks, it’s fairly obvious that the Wii U will make a profit with almost every transaction. A lot of individuals were skeptical about the Wii U being sold at a loss, but with this new statistic being taken into account, it should be interesting seeing what kind of profit Nintendo rakes in with the system.
