PS3 DualShock 3

Sony World Studios President Shuhei Yoshida has been a very busy business man since the big PlayStation 4 announcement this week. Whether he’s answering questions regarding used game compatibility on the PlayStation 4 or talking about 4K resolution for the platform, the Sony boss has been releasing plenty of information to the public. The latest bit of news surrounds the current DualShock 3 controller, which Yoshida confirmed to IGN will not be compatible with PlayStation 4 games.

Sony recently revealed that the PlayStation 4 wouldn’t be backward compatible with current PlayStation 3 games and PlayStation Network downloads, so the lack of DualShock 3 support is hardly surprising. This is brand new hardware with a brand new controller, and it’s obvious that Sony’s attempting to move on entirely and start fresh.

Despite the fact that the PlayStation 4 will not offer support for the DualShock 3, the upcoming console will have Move compatibility. While this is certainly odd given the motion controller’s lack of success or popularity, it should be noted that the DualShock 4 features built-in Move technology. There’s also the matter of the PlayStation 4 Eye to take into account, and really, that peripheral is still shrouded in mystery at the moment.
