Durango

It seems like someone is continuing to leak information on Microsoft’s next Xbox console, code-named “Durango.” The latest batch of rumors come from help documentation found within the XDX (SDK) for the Durango that also provides a general hardware overview of the system for developers

Always on, Always Connected

Part of the documentation refers to the Durango’s capability of running in a low-powered state to allow for faster boot times and background updates and/or downloads. The Durango will “always be connected,” allowing updates to be performed when the console is not in use. It’s unclear if the console will require an active internet connection to play.

Improved Kinect, Always Connected

With Durango we can expect to see a new and improved version of Kinect. The new version will have a wider field of view, removing the need for the bulky tilt motor and allowing it to be used in smaller areas. In addition, the system will require the kinect to be plugged-in to the Durango in order for it to power-on, confirming previous rumors.

Mandatory Game Installs

Like many large PS3 titles of this generation, the Durango will require game installs. Unlike the PS3 however, all games must be installed to the harddrive. Fortunately the Durango will allow games to be played while the game is being installed initially.
