Retro City Rampage Dev Talks Sales, Says He Would’ve Skipped XBLA

Retro City Rampage

Indie developer Brian Provinciano recently discussed the sales figures of his ’80s-influenced hit Retro City Rampage. According to a report on Destructoid, the game managed to push somewhere around 100,000 units across Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, WiiWare, and PC.  As previously revealed, the PlayStation 3 and Vita versions sold more than all other digital retailers.

Provinciano stated that Xbox Live Arcade sales of Retro City Rampage followed those of the PlayStation Network and PC. According to the dev, Microsoft’s platform really only served as a learning experience. If he would’ve known how things were going to turn out, chances are he would’ve opted to skip that platform entirely.

Regarding the WiiWare version of Retro City Rampage, that iteration of the downloadable title currently sits in last place. Still, Provinciano said he was going to release the game on Nintendo’s download platform, so that’s exactly what he did. It cost him about $20,000, but the developer was intent on keeping his word, which is most certainly admirable — even if he has yet to make any profit on that iteration.
