Rayman Legends

When Ubisoft announced that it was delaying Rayman Legends on the Wii U and releasing the game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, a lot of folks were up in arms. It definitely made sense as Rayman Origins became a beloved platformer worthy of the utmost praise despite initially sluggish sales. Speaking to VentureBeat, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot explained that sales had a lot to do with the decision to release Legends on multiple platforms.

“What happened was that we saw the Wii U was not going to sell enough of those games,” explained Guillemot. “The game is going to be fantastic, and we didn’t want those creators to wind up in a position where even after making a fantastic game, they didn’t sell well enough. We decided that we had to come out on enough machines that players can try it out on any one that they have, and give more time to both improve the game on the Wii U and create versions for the other consoles.”

The Ubisoft boss also stated that the extra development time has allowed the team to polish the game further and even add more content. “The quality is there now, because they had more time,” continued Guillemot. “They’ve expanded the possibilities of the game. It’s much bigger content-wise. We have new bosses in key levels and so on. The experience is much more complete. I think it will be one of the best games we’ve ever done.”

We previously learned that Legends was set to receive an additional 30 levels as a result of the delay. The game is also now coming to the Vita, which is sure to please owners of Sony’s current portable. Admittedly, the delay didn’t bother me all that much, but now I just really, really want to play Legends more than ever. September 3 couldn’t come soon enough.
