Sony releases updated GPS software for PSP

SonyStyle and Zenrin have announced that they will be releasing a more advanced version of their Japan-only GPS software, Minna no Chizu. The updated version will be available for purchase in stores this coming April and will include some neat new features:

  • Petamap: a database of user-submitted points of interest.
  • PlaceEngine: software that determines your location based on nearby wi-fi points
  • Pedestrian navigation routes, which include shortcuts through parks, tunnels, etc.
  • Disaster relief centers: just in case.

Let’s hope Sony decides to bring the GPS accessory to the rest of the world soon. With games like Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops already supporting it, there’s no reason not to.
