I know a lot of people aren’t very fond of Waluigi. After all, it’s easy to see him as a knock-off of one of Nintendo’s poorest characters. That said, I like the dude, which is why it’s kind of a bummer that he won’t be a playable fighter in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3DS.

In a Miiverse post, series director Masahiro Sakurai revealed that Luigi’s rival would once again reprise his role as an Assist Trophy in Smash Bros., which obviously means he won’t be playable. “Just because you try hard doesn’t mean you’ll make it into battle,” wrote Sakurai.

Sadly, he’s right. Maybe next time, Waluigi. Maybe next time.
