Great news for all DS-trotting RPG fans: SEGA announced this morning that Phantasy Star Zero will hit North America and European regions in Winter 2009.

Taking place on a war-torn alternate Earth, Phantasy Star Zero is set 200 years after the “Great Blank,” completely obliterated nearly all of civilization and its creations, leaving only a barren wasteland. Those that were lucky enough to survive managed to rebuild small cities, although much of the land is still unclaimed, inhabited only by dangerous monsters. Sounds like the perfect time to set off an adventure, no?

Players can customize their character by choosing from a wealth of race and class types — 14 in all. Additionally, SEGA is promising 350 unique weapons in all, along with the ability to play cooperatively with friends over ad-hoc and Nintendo WiFi Connection. More details are expected to be revealed within the coming months. Hit the jump for screenshots.
