It’s Official: PlayStation: The Official Magazine Officially Closing Down (Officially)

First Nintendo Power, now PlayStation: The Official Magazine …

It looks like we’re going to have to bid farewell to yet another gaming publication pretty soon. According to a report on Game Informer (which also happens to be a magazine yet appears to be in no real danger), PlayStation: The Official Magazine will cease publication.

While neither the magazine itself nor publisher Future US would comment on the story, it looks as though the final issue will be printed this holiday season. It’s a shame, really, and it kind of blows seeing all of these old school gaming magazines go the way of the Dodo.

PlayStation: The Official Magazine originally launched in September 1997, so it’s been around for quite some time. It’s sad to see it go after all these years. In a related note, we’d like to wish the very best to the writing staff.

Honestly, I'm not terribly surprised to see old magazines going away. They seem to tend to be more about ads than honest content these days, right down to untrustworthy reviews, out of date content and splitting up feature articles to place ads. Of course, the ad profit was probably the reason they survive in any printed form currently.
