The upcoming 2009 edition of Madden will feature retired NFL icon Brett Favre as the cover athlete, Electronic Arts announced today. The former Green Bay Packer is widely regarded as one of football’s greatest quarterbacks, holding numerous NFL records.

“Madden NFL Football and Brett Favre are sports icons who have set the standard and revolutionized their positions within their respective genres,” said Madden NFL Executive Producer Dale Jackson. “Brett Favre is a perfect fit for the Madden NFL 09 cover, as he epitomizes everything the franchise has stood for the past 20 years – longevity, excellence, and a love of football.”

I hope the fabled Madden curse doesn’t get him. The twentieth installment in EA’s long-running football series is slated for an August 12 release in North America on nearly every platform under the sun — aside from PC.
