Having firmly established a userbase on the Windows front with nearly 40 million registered users on Origin, no doubt thanks in large part to Battlefield 3, EA is setting its sights towards further expansion. Today marks the official release of a native Mac client for its digital distribution service.

Previously in beta, the Mac edition of Origin carries similar functionality to its PC counterpart. Like Valve’s Steam Play initiative, select EA titles purchased from Origin will work on both PC and Mac. A unified (Mac/PC) My Games library houses these titles for quick access.

To celebrate the launch, EA is running deep discounts on its The Sims franchise — all expansions and the base game can be had for 50 percent off.
