With this morning’s Nintendo Direct, Reggie Fils-Aime, current Nintendo of America President, announced that the Nintendo 3DS will be receiving a new Legend of Zelda game this holiday season. This is not a remake of a classic like we’ve seen recently from Nintendo with Wind Waker HD and Ocarina of Time on the 3DS but rather a sequel to a classic.

Link 2

The new Zelda, currently only named in Japan as The Legend of Zelda: Kamigami no Triforce 2 (The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2), will be a sequel to the world-renowned SNES title A Link to the Past.

The game is said to take place in the same game world as the SNES title but offer an entirely new story and dungeons. There will be more vertical dungeons and some new abilities that will surely add more dimension to the game’s puzzles.

The only new ability revealed was one in which Link was able to go to “2D” mode and lay flat alongside a wall – allowing him to traverse areas not are not traditionally accessible.
