Here’s some good news for the modding community. Volition has decided to release official tools for Saints Row: The Third, allowing modders to go town on the game with some new content and to add even more craziness to the series. Additionally, Saints Row 2 modding kits are also in the works.

The big news was revealed by IdolNinja, a Saints Row-loving modder who explained what this all means for fans of the series. “So, what does this actually mean to the average Saints Row player? In simple terms, the modding community will finally be able to create and offer new clothing, new vehicles, new guns, new NPCs, new missions, and even new world geometry which will greatly extend the life of the series and enhance the Saints Row games in ways we never even dared to dream of.”

In addition to enhancing the user experience for the Saints Row community, it would appear that this initiative is brand-wide. Releasing these modding tools will prove to be a “test run” for Saints Row IV.
