Update: It’s official. We just received a press release from Zynga naming former Xbox chief Don Mattrick as their new CEO.

Wall Street Journal’s AllThingsD is reporting that Don Mattrick, Microsoft’s head of Interactive Entertainment Business, is leaving the company to join Zynga. While Microsoft has not yet issued a official statement, the report cites “multiple sources close to the situation.”

Microsoft faced a hard time at this year’s E3 in its attempt to justify policies that would impact the sale of used games on Xbox One, as well as require users to connect to the internet every 24 hours. During the show, in an interview with GTTV host Geoff Keighley, Mattrick suggested that those without internet should buy a 360 instead.

Of course that’s all in the past, as Microsoft went and did a complete reversal of its policies just a few weeks ago, but you can’t deny that the damage still lingers. Perhaps having a new face as the head of Xbox will aid their efforts in turning things around.
