Instead, users are being encouraged to sign up for the company’s Music Unlimited streaming service, provided you want to listen to background music while playing a game.

We doubt this is a deal-breaker for anyone considering there’s a myriad of other devices you could use to play your MP3 collection while gaming, but it is an odd omission to be sure. Nintendo traditionally has avoided supporting MP3 as well – likely to avoid licensing costs. But unlike Nintendo, Sony is heavily invested in consumer electronics, so this is somewhat strange.
