Banjo-Kazooie Spiritual Successor Gets Canned

Banjo-Tooie

It’s been two years since a couple of former Rare staffers announced that they were working on a spiritual successor to the Banjo-Kazooie series. In what can only be considered disappointing news, it turns out that the project’s been scrapped. Insert a long, audible “aw” right here.

As indicated by PCGMedia, composer Grant Kirkhope, who worked on the Banjo series, Donkey Kong 64, and Star Fox Adventures to name a few revealed the news in a Reddit Ask Me Anything thread.

“The other guys actually had a secret meeting in a pub near Rare, and we even got as far as having a character drawn up and a demo level type thing, but it all fell to bits,” wrote Kirkhope. “Everyone’s got other jobs, etc.”

Well, that’s a shame. I guess it should’ve been obvious considering the Mingy Jongo Twitter account has been inactive since December 2012. Still, it’s disappointing to know that one of the coolest 3D platformers of all time won’t get a much-deserved successor.
