Indie developer Mediatonic today announced that its upwards-scrolling platformer Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess will hit the PlayStation Network on April 22. Playable on both PSP and PS3, pricing is set at £3.49.

First announced back in January, the PS Minis effort sees players assuming the role of a vampire-like demon known as Duke, offering an simple yet addictive premise with a touch of humor thrown in for good measure. Players frantically jump across platforms, building up combos that increase speed and in tandem give Duke the devastating ability to perform fatality-inducing moves on monsters.

“Our goal was to create a game that was accessible and fun, supported by a story and characters that make you laugh – or at least crack a grin,” explained writer and designer Jim Griffiths. He added, “So we’ve worked really hard to cram as much humour and attention to detail as we could into every aspect of ‘Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess!’, and now we’re very much hoping this effort translates into something players will really appreciate and enjoy!”

Alongside the confirmation of a release date, Mediatonic has offered up a dazzling first gameplay trailer. Check it out above.
