Nintendo: DSiWare Content Transferable To 3DS

Are you a DSi adopter considering a 3DS purchase? This should put your mind at ease, especially if you’ve invested heavily in DSiWare: a just-released spec sheet from Nintendo indicates that digital wares can be transferred over to 3DS from a DSi or DSi XL. While Nintendo offered up no details on how this will actually work, chances are a firmware update will add in the functionality.

Nintendo’s said last July that it was making a concerted effort towards revamping its image in the online space. This is a step in the right direction for digital distribution transactions, we’d reckon.

There’s a few caveats. For some, the transition may not go completely smoothly as Nintendo warns that certain software is unable to function on the 3DS, presumably due to hardware incompatibilities. Beyond that, there is a set limit as to how many times a piece of content can be transferred. Admittedly, both are minor quibbles, especially when you consider the DSi currently offers no way to move over data to another unit.
