Nintendo Calls Wii Sports Most Influential Game This Generation

When Wii Sports was first announced, it was seen as nothing more than a simple tech demo demonstrating the Wii’s motion sensing capabilities. Little did we know that it would go on to become one of the Wii’s most popular titles. According to Nintendo UK boss David Yarnton, Wii Sports could even be the most influential game of this generation:

For all the recent talk of record breaking entertainment launches, it might just be that the defining and most influential video game of this generation is a simple game of tennis that the whole family can gather around and play and enjoy together.

Aside from the obvious jab at Microsoft there, I will say that Wii Sports is probably one of the first family-oriented games that has gotten people to play who have never played a game before. For that, it deserves praise. But most influential game? Hard to say at this point.
