This Is the Official Wii U Box Art

Box art for a handful of upcoming Wii U games popped up on the good ol’ internet recently. The titles in question were Assassin’s Creed 3, Avengers: Battle for Earth, and Game Party Champions. A lot of folks speculated that this was the official cover art for Wii U games because it was all identical, sporting a style reminiscent of the old GameCube box art.

Nintendo has commented on the matter, and it looks like the box art we’ve seen as of late is indeed official. “Nintendo has finalized the design of the Wii U game box art, and many of our publishing partners have already incorporated it into their own game packaging,” a representative told Nintendo World Report. “We are seeing those game packages online as retailers are starting to showcase their games. For details about a specific game’s artwork, please contact the game’s publisher. Nintendo-published game boxes will appear shortly with placeholder logos, and then ultimately with the final artwork for each game.”

So there you have it, folks. What do you think of the official Wii U game packaging? Personally, I wasn’t too into it at first, but when I realized how similar it was to the GameCube’s box art, I was a bit less negative toward it. I mean, it certainly offers a bit of nostalgia for fans of the criminally underrated Nintendo platform that preceded the Wii. And while I’m still a bit iffy on the light blue at the top of the box, it’s hard to deny the fact that the style is very easy on the eyes.
