Twisted Metal Driving Like a Lunatic on PSN for $40

Sony and developer Eat Sleep Play launched Twisted Metal on PlayStation 3 back in February. When it first popped up on the scene, the game managed to offer quality car combat gameplay. The story mode left a bit to be desired, but with an addictive online multiplayer component, Twisted Metal was quite a treat. Unfortunately, the game has since fizzled out, and people don’t really talk about it these days.

In case you never played Twisted Metal and you completely forgot about it by now, you should know that it’s coming to the PlayStation Network as a downloadable title. As revealed on a PlayStation Blog podcast, the latest in co-creator David Jaffe’s insane and explosive driving series will also be marked down from its original price tag to a much more pleasant $39.99.

Shortly after the launch of Twisted Metal, Jaffe left Eat Sleep Play. The developer has since stated that he would like to delve into other projects, but he hasn’t abandoned the car combat franchise he helped bring to light. If Sony decides to continue on with the IP, which it owns, Jaffe says he’d be on board to get involved with the project.

It’s a bit of a shame that Twisted Metal didn’t really take off. The game is a lot of fun, and though its single-player mode isn’t as story-driven as past entries, it’s still entertaining. The selling point of Twisted Metal, however, is its online multiplayer. Here’s hoping the new price and digital availability will entice gamers to check out this rather underrated experience.
