The next entry in the Batman series of video games has been announced. Titled Batman: Arkham Origins, the game will be available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC on October 25. The title is set before the events in Arkham Asylum and focuses on “a young and unrefined Batman as he faces a defining moment in his early career as a crime fighter that sets his path to becoming the Dark Knight.”

Arkham Origins isn’t being handled by Rocksteady Studios, the developer that worked on both Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Instead, the upcoming prequel is being worked on by WB Games Montreal. No word on the visual style just yet, but if it’s continuing in the Arkham spirit, then it’s likely that this won’t be the rumored Silver Age-inspired Batman game that was first mentioned a few months ago.

In addition to Arkham Origins, a handheld Batman title will also be released. Developed by Armature Studios, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate will feature a 2.5D design and will act as a companion of sorts to the console game. According to Warner Bros., this portable game will allow players to delve deeper into the console version’s new origin story of Gotham’s dark hero.
