Sonic Lost World Trailer Is Very Sonic X-treme

Sonic Lost World

Sega has released the debut trailer for Sonic Lost World, and it’s pretty damn rad. Chances are if you’re a Sonic detractor you won’t be too thrilled by the goings-on in the clip, but if, like me, you still think the series is pretty good, you’ll likely get stoked by the trailer.

As other outlets have also pointed out, Lost World almost seems to be inspired by the canceled Saturn project Sonic X-treme. That game definitely had potential, but it was in development for far too long and eventually got canned. Perhaps this is Sega’s attempt to finally release the spirit of that endeavor for folks to enjoy.

In addition to the X-treme vibe, I also noticed some nods to both Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations, two really good 3D platformers to star the Blue Blur. Here’s hoping Sega and Sonic Team take everything they’ve learned to create a game that’s not as polarizing as the last few entries have been.

Lost World is due out later this year, and it’s launching exclusively for the Wii U and 3DS.
