Rob Pardo: Blizzard Prepping Game Announcement

Speaking in a recent Q&A session, Blizzard game design VP Rob Pardo revealed that the company plans to announce a new game title, according to industry site GI.biz. It’s important to note that Pardo did not specify when a formal announcement regarding the title will be made, but did strongly imply that it will take place at this year’s Worldwide Invitational in Paris, France.

So you want me to announce the game before our announcement? No offense, but I think there’s like 300 people here, and I’ll be ripped apart by 8000 people there [at the Invitational] if I pre-announce it – but it’s going to be really exciting. I think everybody here will be really excited about the announcement.

While Pardo neglected to offer any specific details on the title, Blizzard fan site DiabloII.net is making the bold claim – citing “reliable inside industry” sources – that the game scheduled to be announced is in fact a third installment in the Diablo series. True? Maybe, but then again, it could just be hopeful conjecture based on Pardo’s recent statements. We’ll find out for sure soon enough, as the Invitational officially kicks off later this week on June 28.
