Microsoft’s E3 2013 Presser – All You Need to Know

Xbox Presser

Microsoft’s annual E3 press conference just concluded earlier, revealing a ton of exclusive titles that are coming to the Xbox One. As promised it was all about the games this time around. Probably the biggest piece of news comes in the form of a set of numbers – $499. That’s the amount of money you’ll have to put down if you want to pick up a Xbox One this November.

In terms of games, a lot was shown off in the 90 minute period of the conference – both new takes on classics as well as brand new IPs.

Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain

Starting off the conference we were immediately greeted with a lengthy Metal Gear Solid V trailer. The biggest news, and something that was presented right from the get-go was the fact that this new entry into the series will feature an open-world environment with a variety of vehicles. Snake is back at it, this time stealthy dodging enemies on a desert battlefield with some new characters and some old faces.

Ryse: Son of Rome

Ryse has gone through quite the makeover since we last saw it as a Kinect title a few years back. The new, Xbox One exclusive, is now a 3rd person action adventure game. The combat though seems plagued with quick time events, with every kill seemingly requiring a quick time event to finish the fight.

Forza Motorsport 5

The brand new Forza title will use the Xbox One’s cloud technology to take the AI out of the game and put the human element in. With Froza 5 players will no longer race against dull AI but rather race against AI that has learned directly from your own racing style and your friends racing style – from drafting, staying in a corner, taking it wide, breaking early, pressure and more. It’s a very ambitious project and I’m personally looking forward to how this will improve racing AI.

Killer Instinct

Killer Instinct is returning to the big screen with the Xbox One. It’s Killer Instinct on Xbox One, what more do you need to know?

Dead Rising 3

Dead Rising 3 is coming exclusively to the Xbox One with next-generation graphics and way more zombies. You’ll now also be able to drive various vehicles in the game and combine several weapons into one – sledgehammer saw anyone?

Quantum Break

A short trailer was shown off of the new IP, Quantum Break. The game takes place after a science experiment went wrong, with time itself falling apart. Time can stop at anytime, including letting of explosions that were once trapped in the stopped time area. The trailer gives us a better sense of what the game’s story will be like, at least better than the Xbox One reveal did.

Project Spark

Probably one of the more interesting titles of the morning, Project Spark is like Little Big Planet but in all dimensions. Use your creativity to create nearly anything imaginable. The ability to terraform the environment live while playing is perhaps one of the more impressive features on the list. Want to create a pet rock? Have at it. Want a rock mech? Sure, why not. Just watch the impressive E3 demonstration.

Sunset Overdrive

From the creators of Ratchet and Clank comes a new exclusive Xbox One title, Sunset Overdrive. With the traditional Insomniac Games arsenal of insane weapons, the game puts the player in a massive open world environment with other players to take down what looked to have been zombie-like enemies.

Dark Souls II

A sequel to Dark Souls, Dark Souls II was announced at Microsoft’s press conference today. No actual gameplay footage was shown.

Titanfall

Leaked earlier via a GameInformer cover photo, Titanfall is Respawn Entertainment’s first title since the studio was formed in early 2010. Titanfall is multiplayer game (no singleplayer!) that will put opposing teams against each other in an intense, high-action, pilot and titan battle. The titans, a fast and nimble version of a mech,  are able to be summoned at the player’s will, changing the battle dynamic instantly. Oh, and there’s an ejection seat! Check out more in the trailer.

Crimson Dragon

This demo didn’t actually have any sound at the press conference due to technical difficulties, but Xbox lists the game as: “Humanity has been driven to the brink of extinction on a colonized planet ruled by dragons. Take charge of a powerful dragon and battle for control of the skies in this thrilling flight-based shooter.”

Halo

A new journey is coming. Master Chief is back again in an all new Halo title. They just teased us with a trailer, no actual information pertaining to the game, its story, or a release date other than “2014” (expect it to drop Fall 2014).
