Xbox One DRM Shift Results in Day One Patch

Yesterday Microsoft announced that it was changing up its ridiculous DRM policies for the Xbox One. After rumors flooded the internet for a while, the company confirmed that it would no longer require a daily connection to the internet or feature “always on” functionality. Additionally, the whole used games deal was addressed, as well. With these new policies, however, come new caveats.

First off, Destructoid is reporting that the Xbox One will require an update on day one in regards to the new policy and console requirements. It’s actually hilariously ironic that the console will have to go online for this update just so you can play it offline. Seriously, hilariously ironic.

In addition to that, games you purchase at retail will no longer be available to you from any Xbox One console unless you bring along the physical disc. That’s a bit of a shame, because it would’ve been cool to have access to remote cloud functionality without restrictions.
