A name change can be a tricky thing — sometimes it can be really awesome, and other times it can totally blow. Thankfully, when famed Bit.Trip developer Gaijin Games decided to switch things up, it went with the pretty impressive title of Choice Provisions. Sounds snazzy, don’t it?

If you’re worried about the rebranding entailing some major internal changes, fret not, because that won’t be the case at all. In a post on the revamped company website, Associate Producer Dant Rambo explained that the name change won’t have any effect on the content released by the studio. In addition, all previous titles, as well as all future Bit.Trip games, will continue to carry the Gaijin Games banner.

Speaking of games, Choice Provisions has two new projects in the works. The first is Laserlife, “a metaphysical journey of euphoric sights and euphonic sounds” that tasks players with guiding “a series of lasers to the beat of an electronic soundtrack, searching the vastness of space for the lost memories of a fallen astronaut.” The game is due out on Steam.

The other project the dev is hard at work on is Tharsis. This upcoming title is all about making “tiny decisions with huge consequences.” You’re three days away from reaching your destination in space, but you’re low on supplies and oxygen, making for a tense situation rife with tough calls. Tharsis is slated for release on Steam and iOS.

Robotube, the small studio acquired by Gaiijin Games in 2010 also received a title change. The dev is now dubbed MiniVisions and is working on Whoa Dave! for the 3DS, Vita, Steam, iOS, Ouya, and Fire TV. The studio is also developing Destructamundo for iOS and Ouya.

Change isn’t always a bad thing, and I think Choice Provisions’ name alteration is proof of that.
