Back in June, it was difficult to say what the future of Atlus would be after news got out that parent company Index was going through some financial troubles. Now, however, it would appear that the future is just a tad bit clearer as Sega has confirmed its acquisition of Index, in the process also obtaining Atlus and its various IPs.

Sega Sammy issued a press release revealing the strategic move this morning. Apparently, Sega plans to utilize Atlus to continue rolling out console titles, but there are also intentions of producing PC and mobile games, which is right in line with Sega’s recent initiative. In addition, plans to create pachinko machines based around Atlus franchises were also mentioned in the press release.

It’s easy to see how a lot of folks would roll their eyes and groan at this news. After all, Sega has developed a track record for failing to localize awesome niche games in North America. Additionally, there’s always that fear that all we’ll see from great series like Persona going forward are shoddy mobile titles. Here’s hoping that’s not the case, though, because that would totally blow.
