The new year has yet to dawn and Microsoft’s product management director Aaron Greenberg is already laying down the proverbial smackdown, proclaiming that Halo Reach is poised to become 2010’s biggest game. What about Gran Tursimo 5? Greenberg doesn’t think much of it, certainly not enough to consider it a threat:

Is it [Gran Turismo 5] launching next year? I’ve seen years and years of mini-games, but I haven’t seen that the game is done. They just released the PSP version – maybe that’s what they’ve been working on. I feel confident that there’s nothing that will compare in size. Halo: Reach will be the biggest game of 2010.

Bold words, but they hold weight. Looking at the latest round of NPD figures, Xbox 360 is racking up software sales left and right. Modern Warfare 2 sold over twice as much on 360 than it did on a competing platform. Granted, the PS3 is at a a disadvantage due to its smaller install base, so comparisons may be unfair. While we’ll admit that odds are weighing in favor of Halo Reach at this point, it’s far too early to start claiming such things considering we have yet to see all that 2010 will bring.
