Tecmo Bowl: Throwback PSN, XBLA Bound

An HD remake of SNES classic Tecmo Super Bowl is headed to PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade, publisher Tecmo announced today. Promising to retain a certain degree of nostalgic fun factor while introducing modern day gameplay enhancements like online multiplayer, Tecmo Bowl: Throwback is due out Spring 2010.

Interestingly, Tecmo says players will be able to switch from a 2D and 3D view of the football field on the fly. A myriad of classic game modes will make their reappearance in the remake as well, including Preseason, Season or Pro Bowl. Also set for inclusion are online leaderboards, allowing players to compare their stats with other players, for better or worse. There’s no word on if the now-retired Tecmo Bowl all-star Bo Jackson will be making a return just yet.

Sweden-based developer Southend Interactive, responsible for the XBLA rendition of Lode Runner, is handling the remake.
