Sega Lays Off 73 In Regional Restructing Effort

As part of an “administrative reorganization” effort, Sega West has put the jobs of 73 staffers on the chopping block. Broken down, that number represents both regional sides of the company’s business, 36 positions in San Francisco and 37 in London.

According to Sega West prez Mike Hayes, the move represents a shift in day-to-day operations for both divisions. The San Francisco offices will concentrate solely on the digital sector, while the European end of business will continue to focus on traditional retail products. Hayes stressed that the reluctant decision to lay off employees was not taken lightly.

Further, Hayes noted that the company is excited over the mass market potential of Natal and Move. Here’s hoping that better times await Sega and those affected by the recent round of job cuts.
