Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto has went on record to say that “technical issues” are preventing a reboot of Final Fantasy V and VI on DS. In his words, a rebirth of these two titles on DS remains “undecided.”

For FF5 and 6, there are technical issues as well, so at present these are also undecided.

What Hashimoto is referring to by technical issues is anyone’s guess. As the GBA handled straight-on ports of V and VI just fine, presumably he means a full-fledged 3D remake in the vein of IV isn’t possible, at least not without making compromises. Might be a ripe undertaking to save for the 3DS, we reckon.
